GIP Event: A Conversation with Alice Kimm

Last night, I had the pleasure of hearing Ms. Alice Kimm speak about architecture and culture. Ms. Kimm is an architect at the notable Los Angeles firm John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects.

Ms. Kimm walked us through the design and deeper meanings of many of her projects. She also discussed sustainability and shared with us the interesting fact that buildings use 40% of energy produced.

Finally, and I think most relevantly to our group, Ms. Kimm showed us how architecture can be a reflection of culture. She showed us a very interesting picture of JFAK's proposed LED monument as a "gateway to Koreatown" right next to an older monument that depicted more traditional Korean architecture. In the Q & A section, Ms. Kimm also discussed with us the fact that Los Angeles doesn't have a very definable culture or monuments of that culture and how that may be impacted by the 2028 Olympics.

Thank you to Ms. Kimm, Mr. Caragher, Kat and Helen for putting on this great event!
